I wrote a post >> here (how to protect yourself against rogue landlords) about tenants checking up on their landlords and the post gives details of a company which provides a landlord referencing service. This is a good idea and no doubt more tenants will start doing this.

There is a blog post >> here (the tenants dilemma), which is quite a few years old (2007), on a report done by the CAB on retaliatory eviction. Which sadly is with us still. Although most landlords want tenants to stay as long as possible.

Tessa, are you aware of any services which will warn a tenant of a poor landlord? Or how many feel that they cannot assert their rights because Section 21 gives their Landlord carte blanche to evict them in retaliation?

Don't get me wrong, I get on fine with my Landlord. But it would be very interesting, for example, to know how many tenants have been threatened by their Landlord - a figure that is conspicuously missing.

Sadly, tenants have little choice but to rent a house based on nothing other than a "hunch" about their prospective Landlord - I'm genuinely interested as to why it's fine for a tenant to have to follow a hunch but not a Landlord?
