When studying law it is helpful to have access to law reports. And although the BAILII reports are available and free, they don’t cover ALL cases.
Where BAILII reports are available, they also give the full transcripts, rather than focusing on the part you need to know.
Often the cases that would be of most interest to landlords and agents are those which are decided in the lower courts – prosecutions under the HMO legislation in the Magistrates Courts or under the gas or fire regulations for example.
Destin Case Law Digest
Enter the Destin Case Law Digest. This is a service from Destin Solutions Ltd, who provide practical tools and housing law solutions to housing providers.
One of these is a series of case law reports, all sourced and written by specialist housing QC Jan Luba.
I have been using the Digest for over a year now and have found it VERY helpful. Quite a few posts on this blog are based on cases which I learned about through the digest.
Their cases are all relevant, and they come with links to reports online (for example in the local press) and where possible a transcript of the decision.
So I was delighted when Ruth at Destin agreed that Easy Law for Landlords students could have free access to their private sector case digest for the duration of the course AND a discount if they decide to take up a subscription later!
The course is now open for bookings, so if you are interested, you can find out more >> here.
We’ve bought this package in at my council, they’re invaluable. Case law I can understand, sod BAILII, its like trying to understand Japanese arithmetic
