Landlord Law Blog Roundup from 14 September

This post is more than 10 years old

September 20, 2015 by Tessa Shepperson

Horrified landlordDifficult times ahead for Engish landlords

  • The smoke alarm regulations have now been approved so you need to ensure that you have fitted smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as required by 1 October
  • There are new rules coming in for section 21 notices bringing in more pre-conditions, a new form, time restrictions and a new procedure to follow if tenants complain about the property condition
  • Regulations under a planned new Immigration Act will bring in swingeing penalties if you let to someone without any ‘right to rent’ under immigration law
  • New tax laws will make it more difficult for you to make a profit (plus interest rates are due to start rising next year)

Welsh landlords won’t get away with it.  The last two apply to you too plus there is an entirely new legal regime coming into Wales.

Its going to be tricky.  But what happened on the blog?

Really more likely “bad times ahead for English tenants. Someone pays the price of bonkers legislation — and yes there will be a price.
