The FREE Landlord Law Right to Rent checklist

This post is more than 9 years old

February 23, 2016 by Tessa Shepperson

Right to rent checksIf you are a landlord or an agent you probably feel at times as if you are drowning in a morass of paperwork.

Forms, lists, applications, notices, it’s just one damned bit of paper after another. So here I am with another one for you …

Right to rent – and getting it right

These wretched right to rent checks which have been foisted upon the landlording profession are mostly straightforward but can be tricky. As with all things, there are lots of things which could go wrong which you have to watch out for.

And there is a possible penalty of £1,000 (£3,000 for a second offence) if you get things wrong.

Sod’s Law says it is the time when you are most flustered, feeling most rushed, that will be one of those times. It is then that you will be faced with a non-standard situation and won’t recognise it. Or miss out a part of the check which you should have done.

This is why I wrote the checklist. Its just a list which you can use to prompt your memory. Have it there for all your properties – tick off the points as you go and put the form with the file so you will know that you have done it.

How to get your hands on it

It’s a free form, but you do have to sign up for it.  It’s all explained on this page.
