ThinkingA quiet week as befits the summer season.

August is a time for holidays (we have just got back from a refreshing week in Somerset) and for thinking.  I often use it for development work and making plans.

I have some exciting ideas which I am working on just now but its much too soon to talk about them.  So I’d better just tell you about last week.

Why a periodic tenancy arising at the end of a fixed term is actually a new tenancy

I was a bit surprised, when reading comments on Property 118 and elsewhere, to read landlords shock and anger at the Judges statement in the Superstrike case, that a periodic tenancy is a new tenancy.  Lawyers have known this for years.  So this article explains why.  See here …

Can a tenant claim compensation for landlords breach of contract?

A landlord fails to inform a tenancy why a deduction has been made from his deposit within the period specified in the tenancy agreement.  Does this entitle the tenant to claim compensation?  See what I said about this here …

Ben Reeve Lewis Friday newsround #118

Its the silly season, everyone is on holiday and Ben is bored.  Very bored.  The only story which gets close to lifting his lethargy is that of a new fan.  We need to stop him thinking about mint sauce – find out why here …
