Speaking at the Landlord Law conference on 28 March 2014 is Timothy Waitt.
Timothy Waitt is a solicitor and partner in the housing team at Anthony Gold Solicitors. His has been described as “First Rate” and ‘the future of tenant housing law’ by the Legal 500 Directory.
Timothy has been working in landlord and tenant law for the past 12 years. He grew up in South London, studied in South Wales and trained at a niche housing practice before joining Anthony Gold Solicitors.
His work focuses on repair issues, both defending landlords and advising tenants.
Timothy has developed an increasing specialism in damp and mould cases, helping tenants sue their landlords and prosecute them in the Criminal courts.
His interest developed while living in a damp and mouldy basement flat himself. Fortunately he could move before his daughter was born, but from then on he has had profound sympathy for people stuck in such accommodation.
These cases involve leaks and pure condensation damp and mould problems. His clients have successfully forced landlords to pay fines, compensation and carry out major improvements and repair works. I blogged about his work here.
Damp and mould problems are highly technical and Timothy has a keen interest in the sciences and these issues fascinate him. As his blog post here illustrates, he tackles the issues in terms of a beer!
Timothy is speaking at the Landlord Law Conference about these important issues. He said:
“Damp and mould issues are incredibly important for landlords. If they don’t take action they risk criminal prosecution and fines. These are major issues that may prevent them being licensed under the Housing Act 2004.
They also face compensation claims for damaged health. What might cost a few hundred pounds to sort out could costs many thousands. I’m exicted about talking on these issues at the Landlord Law Conference.”
You can read more from Timothy here and about him on the Anthony Gold website. Find out more about the Landlord Law Conference at www.lllconf.com.
I’d come if it wasn’t such a slog from the westcountry. Any chance of a more centrally based event in the future?
I’m sorry, I know it is not convenient for everyone. However we are based in East Anglia and wanted to provide something in the East. It is also a fabulous venue.
If you fancy a few days away, we have arranged a special rate at the adjacent four star Angel Hotel, which is VERY nice http://www.easylawtraining.com/conference/accommodation/.
Bury St Edmunds is a nice little town too and the home of the Greene King Brewery.
