Another blog clinic question, this one form Job
I paid a £250 fee for the inventory. My landlord has not been able to show me this for the past 3 weeks and my agreement states I have to pay £0.00 to make up an inventory.
What can I do about this, can I simply ask them for a refund? Which they refuse, stating I have an old lease agreement and they need to setup a new one…
If your landlord is not authorised to charge for this in the tenancy agreement AND if he can’t show you the inventory you have supposedly paid for, then it looks like a totally unauthorised charge and you should be able to deduct this from your rent.
So far as setting up a new lease / tenancy is concerned, they can’t force you to sign this if you don’t want to.
However ultimately all assured shorthold landlords have their tenants over a barrel, as they can always serve a section 21 notice and force them to leave after it expires. So if you want to stay at the property long term you need to reach some sort of compromise.
