Justin Bates KC and the Local Authority Renters Rights Bill Online Conference 2025

September 22, 2025 by Tessa Shepperson Leave a Comment

The Local Authority Renters Rights Bill Online Conference 2025Our online conference on 8 October is essential watching for Local Authorities!

We have Justin Bates KC, and myself (Tessa Shepperson) discussing the legal side of things and going through the legislation.

Then we have talks on the more practical side of things:

  • Ben Reeve Lewis, who has been working with Local Councils for over 30 years, variously as a TRO, enforcement officer and trainer is going to be discussing enforcement and homelessness prevention
  • Sarah Bradley (formerly of the Police) will be discussing the principles of effective investigations and evidence management
  • Solicitor Emma Synn Owen will be considering the fundamental principles of forming an effective investment and prosecution strategy, and
  • Al McClenhan will be explaining how to comply with the new statutory duties to issue Civil Financial Penalties
  • The day will end with a one hour Q&A session where you can put your questions to our speakers

As you should know, if you work for a Local Authority, the bill will make enforcement of the housing legislation by Local Authorities in their area mandatory.  Local Authorities failing to do this may well face Judicial Review by tenants organisations and others.

Here is Justin KC to explain things further:

The conference will be delivered online and the cost is £96 per person (including VAT) with discounts for bulk bookings.

Delegates attending will get 5 hours CPD.  You will also get access to the recordings for the following three months.
